Nuclear power urged by rural electric leader
Robert D. Partridge of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association urged greatly expanding nuclear power to meet rising U S energy needs. Speaking at Dairyland Power and Northern States Power events, he warned petroleum reserves may run out early next century and coal-based output may struggle to meet demand after 1987. He cited NEA estimates of coal needs around 900 million tons to cover future electric needs, far above current growth in U S coal production.
