Wisconsin dairy farms lose milk due to hidden parasites in cows. A.C. Todd of UW Madison and team report that removing worms, often hair sized, raises milk production by 500 to 750 pounds yearly. Cows show few outward signs, yet economically important. Treatments via chemical feed aids exist.

Palmer McCoy a state community development specialist from Eau Claire has been named director of UW Extension s 12 county district in northern Wisconsin headquartered at Rhinelander McCoy 45 succeeds William A Shimel who resigned to become extension director of Vermont He was selected as one of seven district directors from a faculty review committee Evans said McCoy will administer the district for the chancellor and work closely with extension s faculty McCoy s district includes Burnett Douglas Washburn Bayfield Sawyer Ashland Price Iron Vilas Oneida Forest and Florence counties The La Farge native holds degrees from UW Madison and has been a community development specialist for seven years He joined UW Extension in 1962 and has been recognized for revitalizing downtown areas and administering the Northwest Consortium of Title I Higher Education Act which includes UW Stout River Falls Eau Claire and others.
