Wisconsin setaside signup deadline looms amid strong farmer participation
Area farmers have seven days left to sign up for the 1978 setaside program. By May 19, 33,857 Wisconsin farmers, about 42 percent, had enrolled, idling roughly 385,750 acres. Dunn County leads in farm enrollments. Pierce County has the highest crop acre participation at 94.9 percent. County figures show 523 farms in Eau Claire with 60.8 percent of crop acres in the program. USDA extensions may not push beyond May 31, with ASCS offices open through week and into early next week.

Osceola Woman Wins Fourth in Dairy Judging Contest
Becky Eicher of rural Osceola placed fourth in the senior division of Hoard's Dairyman's 48th dairy cattle judging contest scoring 488 of 500. She competed among 16,023 contestants from all 50 states and 19 foreign countries with no perfect scores recorded.
