State troopers enforce ban on antibiotic raised hogs

Governor Bill Janklow used state troopers to enforce a May 10 executive order banning livestock treated with the growth promoting antibiotic chloramphenicol and to require inspection of imports from countries using the drug. He won assurances from Swift & Co. and John Morrell & Co. to halt buying Canadian hogs, amid a broader U.S. Canada trade dispute over hogs.
