Stray voltage nets a six-figure dairy award
Ansel Johnson blamed stray voltage for declining milk production and cattle losses at his Polk County dairy. A jury awarded him 287,807.59 but reduced to about 231,000 after allocating 18 percent fault to Johnson and 20 percent to herd production issues. The Schmitt family of rural Clyman runs a home business making ropes and halters for cattle, started in 1973 after they bought the shop from a retiring ropemaker. Mr Rumler built the 1928 model rope-making machine still used today, capable of four dozen ropes per hour with two workers.

Cuba City soils team wins grand championship in Oklahoma City
Cuba City FFA's four member soils team captured the grand championship at the 35th Annual International Land Pasture and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City April 30 to May 1.
