First Jackson purebred dairy sale called fantastic

The Jackson County Holstein Breeders sponsored their first annual registered dairy cattle sale at the Black River Falls fairground attracting about 250 people. Forty four head averaged 1625 dollars for a near seventy thousand dollar gross, with cattle selling to breeders in Missouri, Minnesota and Iowa. Top seller was a fresh two year old owned by Bruce Odeen of Black River Falls with Ivanhoe Jewel bloodlines. The Fall Creek High School FFA chapter marks its 25th year of activity at a Thursday banquet. The Jackson County association will decide if a 1979 sale continues or becomes biennial, possibly under the Black River Country name. National program director Mike Snyder helped select all cattle.
