Tyrone farmers seek land buyback under SB 789 in Wisconsin
Wisconsin Senate hearing on SB 789 would let Dunn County landowners reclaim land condemned by Northern States Power Co for the Tyrone nuclear project. The bill sets a process via the Public Service Commission and circuit court to return title, with compensation and tax provisions, and applies to related license denials after 1971. Co sponsors include Harsdorf Offner Strohl Moody Lorman Braun and lawmakers from both parties. Badger Safe Energy Alliance leads support as NSP land remains with utility after project abandonment.

State sets rules for testing of milk protein
The first major revision since 1976 of Ag 107, the state agriculture department regulation on milk testing, was discussed at a regional hearing in Altoona. Hearing examiner Bill Hansen said turnout was high but comments were few. 32 attended Altoona, with similar turnouts in Marshfield Green Bay and Madison. The revision introduces four legal protein tests, sets minimum test counts per pay period, and requires calibration per manufacturer procedures. It also shifts to potassium dichromate as a preservative, replacing bichloride of mercury, after EPA concerns. The record remains open to March 15 with potential agriculture board approval by month end and referral to legislative committees.
