Rae Reilly, Iowa State University extension textiles expert, advises would-be professional sewers to weigh annual expenses such as advertising, supplies, liability insurance, travel, and space costs against desired yearly profit. She suggests calculating total expenses plus profit, then setting hourly rates based on available hours, using a $5.50 per hour example for $5,500 on 1,000 hours.
An art event titled Creative Horizons for children ages four to 12 will be offered July 1 at UW Eau Claire. Education majors in the summer session Art and the Child will run the morning program under William Benson. Activities include drawing painting and using diverse materials with parent participation.
