Milk production slows but dairy surplus persists in 1982
Senate and House agricultural committees study bills to modify the dairy price support program ahead of October 1. Despite slower growth, milk output continues rising overall due to more milk produced per cow and favorable heifer supplies. Analysts expect 1.5 to 2 percent annual production rise in 1982 as demand grows and winter shortages ease.

Dairy milk production and sales show strength in 1982
Production reached 132.6 billion pounds in 1981 with a projected rise to 132.9 billion if farm milk sales grow 2 percent. Commercial sales rose 1.7 percent in early 1982, yet first quarter 1981 sales were down. Government purchases remain high with cheese and nonfat dry milk bought at five year highs.
Wisconsin Eyes Easing Foreign Land Ownership Law
Deputy secretary Michael Ley urged changes to Wisconsin's century old ban on foreign land ownership to lure foreign capital for development. Ley testified to a Legislative Council panel noting alien owners hold 17,613 acres worth 22 million dollars, with over half owned by West Germans, and that Wisconsin managers may be retained by foreign firms.
