Wisconsin SWCDs to dissolve amid 1981 reform shift

The state Board of Soil and Water Conservation Districts ends June 29 in Mt Horeb, as Chapter 346 Laws of 1981 dissolves SWCDs and creates the Land Conservation Board under the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. New local Land Conservation Committees replace SWCCs, merging county and federal conservation programs with existing boards and ensuring broad representation.

New law expands continuing disability examinations for beneficiaries

A 1980 Social Security change triggers routine re examinations to verify continued eligibility. Most beneficiaries will have their cases reviewed at least once every three years with due process if benefits may stop. The DDS handles evidence review, notice, and opportunities to submit extra information before final decision. The process includes potential appeals and contact with a local Social Security office. Also, the Washburn County fair hosts the annual District 12 Black and White Holstein Show starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday with seven counties, judged by Marlowe Nelson of Westby, concluding about 2 p.m.
