Wisconsin Milk Safe From Nuclear Emissions Says State Analyst
State official Lawrence J. McDonnell of the Department of Health and Social Services states that radioactive releases from Wisconsin nuclear plants pose no threat to milk supplies. He notes past fears from atmospheric nuclear tests were minimal, with the most radioactivity ever found in Wisconsin milk at 260 picocuries, well within FDA limits. Milk is tested biweekly at seven stations including Genoa, the Point Beach plant near Kewaunee, and Madison, and radioactivity has declined since the test ban treaty.
