Baldus Might Succeed Ausman As Agriculture Chief

Rumors place former U.S. Representative Alvin Baldus as a potential successor to La Verne Ausman as head of Wisconsin's Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection. Democratic gains gave Gov. Anthony Earl’s administration 4-3 board control, with officials noting a transition is possible though Ausman remains in post. Baldus, a three term Democrat and former state representative, is currently with CENEX in Minneapolis and has been asked about the job at the Eau Claire convention. The move would reflect a shift toward a more activist board while acknowledging Ausman’s prior record.

He cited rising incomes, favorable prices, and strong promotion as offsetting aging demographics.

Wisconsin Cheese Faces California Market Watch

A Wisconsin milk board campaign promotes Wisconsin cheese in California while lawmakers and industry leaders assess potential impact. Jim Tillison and Dowaine Giraud caution against overreacting to California’s new large cheese plant, noting California remains a cheese-deficit state and Wisconsin supplies a large share of its imports.
