Taylor County honors two farming families at Dairy Month banquet
In Stetsonville and Medford area, the Noland and Peissig families were named Young Farmers of the Year and Farm Family of the Year respectively. The Nolands, farming since 1982 in Goodrich, own 200 acres with 50 more rented, and till 170 acres. They grow barley, corn, peas and oats, and 100 to 110 acres of hay.

Young couple expands registered herd goals amid farm upgrades
The Nolands, a Taylor family, run a 48-cow Holstein herd that is 75 percent registered and yields 18 000 pounds of milk and 670 pounds of butterfat. They added a manure pit and barn improvements, plan to stay at current herd size, and pursue more artificial insemination. The Peissigs, operating southwest of Stetsonville, rebuilt barns, silos, and a milk pipeline since 1968, managing a 65-cow herd with 18 400 pounds of milk and 692 pounds of butterfat on 230 acres plus 80 rented. They sell hay and springing heifers to fund college for their six children.

Washburn hosts dairy breakfast boosts local farming spirit
Dale and Roxie Spaulding hosted a June Dairy Month breakfast with about 1200 attendees. The Spauldings, long-time Washburn County farmers since 1970, emphasize family in a 130 head Holstein operation that markets through Stella Cheese and plans farm succession as they pursue debt freedom. The Tri-County Dairy Promoters organize three breakfasts in eastern Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer counties this summer.
