Fuel supplies edge up as harvest nears but shortages loom
State energy official Gregory Kroehm says farm fuel has improved yet summer demand from vacationers and fuel oil users could strain supplies. Setaside stocks remain available but have declined as allocations tighten. 450 to 500 June requests have been filed, with few calls from farmers. Despite better agricultural conditions, scattered summer shortages are expected.

Dairy policy extension backed by House Agriculture Committee
The House Agriculture Committee approved a two year extension of the dairy support program at 80 percent of parity, rejecting a call from Agriculture Secretary Bergland to modify the policy as surpluses rise. If Congress does not act, the floor would drop to 75 percent of parity with purchases by the government keeping prices from falling. Rep Alvin Baldus said the plan shields farmers without burdening taxpayers as retail prices stay above the support level and government stocks thin.
