Pierce County Dairy Day crowns Dairy Princess at Hines ranch
More than 600 attended the June Dairy Day at Lester Hines ranch near here on June 7 featuring contests demonstrations prizes and dairy products. Cheryl Emery was named Dairy Princess and will promote the dairy industry in Pierce and surrounding counties. Contestants included Jeanne Bauer Maiden Rock Jane Shafer Spring Valley and Mary Sukawatey Spring Valley. Awards covered milk drinking cow milking weight guessing and daily milk consumption with multiple winners and runners up. 4-H demonstrations poster contest and youth activities were also highlighted with Mary Drewiske representing the county at the State Fair event.

Equity Livestock to Start Private Treaty Hog Market
Equity Livestock Cooperative will launch a private treaty hog marketing service on Mondays and Wednesdays starting June 18 at the local market, with the Sparta outlet joining June 19. Farmers should deliver hogs between 7 and 11 a.m. and can call 715-835-3104 for details. Feeder pigs at Eau Claire and Sparta will be graded by weight and quality for buyers from Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. Hogs must be detailed castrated and healed to fetch top prices.

Farm TV show to go nationwide via ABC distribution
Country Day, a KSTP farm program starring Steve Edstrom, will be nationally distributed by ABC-TV starting this month. Originating locally, the 30 minute show airs at 6:30 a.m. daily and will be produced at 5:30 a.m. Minneapolis time for live eastern broadcasts and tape delayed western feeds. The St. Croix-Dunn County Guernsey Breeders hold a twilight meeting June 22 at the George Peterson farm south of Wilson, featuring dairy judging a speaker and lunch.
