State lake renewal districts face drastic funding cuts
Wisconsin lake districts face a near halt to federal funding for cleanup as the Federal Clean Lakes Program ends this fiscal year. State funding could drop at least 8 percent under a new budget, reducing grants from 212000 per project to about 100000. Bond costs rise. future projects likely scaled back. Additional actions include timber stumpage revisions, woodland tax changes, and approval of the White River Fishery Area master plan. Governor Dreyfus backs Bibon Marsh protection with some reservations, and 18 endangered plus 15 threatened plants added to lists. A horse-use revision and waivers for camping fees were approved amid budget constraints. The Nature Conservancy donated 720 acres for the Big Rib River Fishery Area. DNR will cover taxes and closing costs.
