Barron board defeats spraying ban
The Barron County Board votes 21 to 6 against a proposed ban on aerial spraying of defoliants without landowner consent. The measure grew from a 1976 incident when Northern Natural Gas sprayed a Stanley right of way, with residents alleging crop and livestock harm and illness. About 150 residents feared future spraying along the pipeline. The board said the resolution would not help landowners and that fighting a powerful utility would be required otherwise.
