No state threat from medfly in Wisconsin say experts
UW extension entomologist Phil Pellitteri says there is probably no danger to Wisconsin from the Mediterranean fruit fly even if it enters via fruit. He notes they would unlikely survive long enough to complete a generation before cooler weather ends the cycle. The medfly, tropical by nature, has been eradicated in the southern U.S. several times.

Control Insects Pests in Stored Grain on Farm

Caution on Sudan Grass Harvest and Grazing Heights
Farmers should avoid grazing or cutting Sudan grass until it reaches 18 inches and sorghum Sudan crosses until 20 inches tall. Early cutting may cause prussic acid poisoning in cattle, especially under stress, while new shoots contain the highest acid levels. Recent rains reduce stunting risk.

Grass Waterways Need Biannual Mowing and Nitrogen Boost
Barron County soil conservationist Gene Hausner recommends mowing established grassed waterways at least twice yearly to control growth and promote dense sod. An annual nitrogen application of 40 to 60 pounds enhances forage production and the grasses can be harvested as livestock feed.
The White House on the Point Lords a Prohibition Era Secret
A Northern Wisconsin lake area once a refuge for gangsters during Prohibition is revealed through a summer visit. From a boarded up white house on a point overlooking two lakes, we glimpse a hidden world of bootleggers, a car at the door, and a chilling warning to keep silent. The tale links Al Capone Ma Barker and Dillinger to a real stalked hideout amid the untouched forests. Local legends grow as we continue fishing and abandon explorations despite the eerie, watched house.
