Cattle mound greets visitors at Farm Progress Days in Kaukauna
A 50 by 170 foot cattle mound near the Van Eperns barn in Outagamie County in eastern Wisconsin aims to keep Holstein cows dry and content. Designed by Len Massie at an estimated cost of 1500 to 2000 dollars, the mound will divide into two usage zones to benefit higher and lower producing cows, with slopes to shed rain and provide cooling air. The structure sits about 75 feet from the barn and reflects a Wisconsin farming practice to improve herd comfort and productivity.
