Wisconsin cattle neglect cases rise amid winter

Wisconsin humane agent Dr. John Kolpanen reports growing cattle neglect across more than a dozen counties as harsh winter conditions and farmer finances worsen. Incidents include 130 cattle seized in a western county, 14 dead at a Clark County dairy, 23 dead cows in Marathon County, and ongoing investigations in Portage and other counties.

Barron couple named state's best farmers in Jaycees event

Barron couple Bob and Karyn Schauf were named Wisconsin Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmers for 1986. The pair run Indianhead Holstein Ltd. west of Barron with 1,063 acres, 90 registered Holsteins, and a 25,000 square foot operation including show cattle facilities. Their farm sells cattle, semen, embryos, and crops, and Karyn has longstanding roles in dairy marketing and public zones.

Snow Likely Then Warmer Weekend Across Northern Wisconsin

The National Weather Service in Minneapolis reports a light to moderate snow event likely on Thursday and Friday for the northern half of Wisconsin, followed by partly sunny skies on Saturday. Temperatures will reach the 20s with lows from 0 to 5 above the following two nights, rising to around 10 above by Saturday.
