Kenan Farm run by Kent and Ann Rudesill on 280 acres tops Pierce County butterfat with 742 pounds for the DHI period ending April 30, led by 35 Holsteins and 18,034 pounds of milk. They credit breed selection, aAa guidance, and in-house management for the 43-pound lead over rival Marvin Dusek.
Myron Mueller and his sons Randy and Bruce run a growing dairy near Alma. The herd now averages 20 410 pounds of milk with 744 pounds butterfat, up from seven months earlier. They added about 40 head including 28 first calvers and 14 purebreds, some initially under 3.0 fat that rose to about 3.6.
The Schmidtknecht family farms near Waumandee in Buffalo County. They recently acquired an all registered herd and replaced 13 high producing grades with homegrown heifers. Their 60 Holsteins average 19,026 pounds of milk and 764 pounds butterfat per cow, leading the county for fifth year. They credit fertilization, high moisture corn, and a liquid manure system saving thousands in fertilizer and fuel. The family emphasizes selective buying of cows and plans to continue mixed corn silage and haylage in feeding.
