River Country RC&D studies area mineral mines and reclamation needs
The River Country RC&D Council reports 39 active sand and gravel operations in its nine county Wisconsin area, with 1,024 mines identified total. Most sites are dry, but 43 percent are abandoned, raising environmental concerns, water quality issues, and the need for reclamation plans including topsoil handling and slope stabilization.
