Extension programs reach big farmers best, USDA finds
A USDA study of 562 counties shows county agents engage larger farmers more in extension work. Among 444 rural counties surveyed in 1979, 80 percent of high revenue farmers and 70 to 76 percent of midrange producers participated. Small part-time farmers with sales under 2500 annually showed about 47 percent involvement. The report details methods including mail newsletters and local broadcasts.
