A Duane Lewis farm in Baldwin hosted a film crew last month to shoot a city promotional spot. The weather segment featured a staged rain storm provided by the local fire department while a chilly crew sought shelter under a tarp.
The Country Today reports Ciba-Geigy shifts farm chemical ads to appeal to urban audiences. After prior criticism of television advertising as wasteful, the campaign now targets city viewers with a message urging farmers and city people to value each other.
National TV spots feature Ciba-Geigy farmers advertising to build support for agriculture. Ads air on CBS ABC and NBC networks from Dec 9 to Dec 14 and on Minneapolis Saint Paul stations, with two Wisconsin farm sites used for segments The Vanishing Farmer and Weathering the Storm filmed in Roberts and Baldwin. The Lewises earned 1100 dollars for rent and lawn damage while Hammond fire department received about 2000 dollars for the production crew.
