Pierce County Fair draws 30,000 plus amid centennial plans
Attendance at the 99th Pierce County Fair exceeded 30,000 over four days, with about 9,500 exhibits and receipts near 86,200 dollars. County agent Bernie Drewiske said the crowd and exhibits topped previous years as preparations begin for the 100th anniversary next year featuring grandstand acts and memorabilia displays.

The Pierce County sale Friday night sold 80 head including beef, sheep and swine, bringing in 38277 dollars. Top bid was 1.65 per pound for Colleen Crownhart’s 265-pound No. 2 crossbred hog, bought by Zumbrota Livestock. Other notable sales included 264-pound red ribbon hog at 1.60 per pound to Pierce County Bank and Trust, and champion lamb, hog, and steer reaching 1.50, 1.50, and 1.20 per pound respectively.

About 100 Pierce County fairgoers rode a 15 by 8 by 5 foot Convincer crash device, a 12 foot ramp ride simulating an 7 to 10 mph collision. Riders described the jolt as stiff, with emphasis on belt use. Officials noted 25 percent fewer injuries in crashes if belts had been worn, citing 13 county traffic fatalities last year spared by seat belt use.
