Fed cattle price drop expected but costs for dairy steady
Dr. Paul Hasbargen of the University of Minnesota forecasts a short term dip in fed cattle prices possibly below 50 a hundred within two to three months, with steady demand causing a price drop yet a brighter outlook for west central Wisconsin cow cows. He advises dairy farmers to market normally and cull cows if needed, while beef producers should sell when stock is ready to avoid heavier cattle later. Feeder calf prices could reach 75 next year as cow herds rebuild, with sustained demand keeping feeding margins tight for years.
