Loyalty program upheld by U S court of appeals
The U S court of appeals on Wednesday upheld the constitutionality of the loyalty program for government workers. Dorothy Bailey, a former $8 000 a year employee of the federal security agency, was suspended in 1948 and dismissed in 1949 over questions of loyalty. The court allowed dismissal but struck down a three year ban on future government employment.

Lester Gillette a 58 year old Fostoria former state senator and former Iowa state board of education member announced Wednesday his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for governor. He is the second to enter the race after Des Moines public safety commissioner M J Bennett. Gillette a nationally known dairy cattle judge born in Dickinson county in 1892 holds degrees from Iowa State College and the University of Missouri. He taught in the Iowa State college dairy husbandry faculty from 1914 to 1919 and has farmed since.
