Three schoolboy sleuths in Saint Paul traced fugitive William Raymond Nesbit, long hunted by federal agents after escaping the South Dakota penitentiary on September 4, 16, to a Milwaukee rail line area. Nesbit, described by the FBI as dangerous, was arrested following the boys identification of a newspaper photo and tip to police. The boys once saw the man around a cave near Warner Road and the Milwaukee line, then alerted authorities. Nesbit, imprisoned for murder, may benefit from the Dakota penitentiary escape story.
The Iowa legislativ e interim committee in Des Moines approved a $35,000 interim allotment to Iowa School for the Deaf to cover salaries and maintenance with payment to the state board of education. It also granted $317,737 to the state conservation fund for improvements at Goode State Park in Des Moines, Henry counties Union Grove State Park in Tama County and Honey Creek in Washington County.

McCarthy accuses Service of pro communist sympathies and claims a whitewash of the case by the State Department. The board ordered Service back from India to testify in person before the loyalty panel. Richardson disclosed he answered one question and cited presidential order to withhold other details.
