May Propose Formula For Cut In Arms

The United States Britain and France may propose at the next Big Four summit that Russia consider a formula to reverse the arms race in Europe. Dulles discussed the idea with Macmillan and Pinay during recent talks in New York and San Francisco. He noted Molotov’s responsive reply to US demands for compensation over a Soviet jet downing a US patrol plane. A Geneva summit is planned for July 18 with Eisenhower, Bulganin, Eden and Faure.

Thundershowers Forecast Here and Nearby Weather Impacts

The Weatherman expects thundershowers to start Monday evening and last through Tuesday with highs around 85 and a 65 degree low Tuesday morning. Nationwide showers linger into midweek according to the Des Moines Weather Bureau. Heavy rains flood parts of Nebraska and Wyoming with debris blocks on Highway 26 and hail reported near Scotts Bluff.

DES MOINES Gov. Leo Hoegh is vacationing with his family at their summer home near Colorado Springs. His office said Monday he planned to spend this week and next with his wife and two small daughters. The family left a week ago Saturday and the governor followed a week later.

1846 U S Stamp Sells For 4200 At London Sale

A hand made five cent U S stamp from 1846, one of about a dozen known, sold in London for 1500 pounds or about 4200 dollars. Issued by Millbury Massachusetts postmaster before the 1847 general issue, local stamps were permitted. Sir Nicholas Waterhouse offered the piece, bought by an Australian collector whose name was not released.

Four Iowans Die In Weekend Traffic Mishaps

Four Iowans died in motor vehicle accidents across Floyd County Monona County and Guthrie Center area over the weekend. Sylvia Rey 19 of Rudd died in a two car collision two miles west of Rudd and five others were injured. Delaine Malone 19 of Ute died on Highway 141 north of Mapleton and six others were injured. Lawrence John Herman 39 of Dubuque was killed when his tractor overturned near Manchester while Wayne Titus 14 of Guthrie Center died from earlier injuries in an auto crash nearby. Services were planned for the Titus boy Tuesday.

Two More Deaths To Nebraska Toll In 1955 Traffic Deaths

Nebraska reports two additional road fatalities for 1955. One year old Robert Siercks of Fremont died when his car rolled over on a county road west of Fremont. Guy Davis of Lincoln, age five, died after losing control of his car which struck a bridge north of Alliance. Davis was an assistant 4 H club leader and pioneer in the state 4 H movement. The toll for the year rises to 130, one less than the previous year.

Toll Free Bridge to Open at Midnight in Nebraska City

The Missouri River bridge on Highway 2 linking Iowa and Nebraska City will become toll free at midnight Thursday. Nebraska City will retire the last 35,009 dollars of bridge bonds on July 1 and celebrate for two days. The bridge, built in 1920, marks the end of tolls on this crossing.

Hart resigns as Highway Commission auditor

DES MOINES Klare L Hart 65 Ames resigned Monday as State Highway Commission auditor for the state comptroller's office. The resignation is effective June 0. State Comptroller Glenn Sars field said Hart resigned because of ill health. He appointed Quentin A Love 34 Fort Dodge to succeed Hart on July 1. Hart has been commission auditor since 18. Love has been an auditor for the comptroller's office at Town State College for the last four years. The commission auditor position pays 5 640 a year.

In New Orleans Mrs Paul Spurlock reports a snowball stand outside her house where her children allegedly used two bottles of liqueur to spike the treats. Citizens queued as the situation escalated prompting her to intervene and preserve the remaining liquor.

Heats On for Industrial Fund in Council Bluffs

Monday announcements launched the final push for a $200,000 Council Bluffs Industrial Foundation drive. Dr ive chairman James Mulqueen announced $138,200 already pledged, with 3,500 local businesspeople targeted over five days to raise the remaining $61,800. Foundation President L. W. Ross cited national interest in the site as a sign of progress. An 80 acre site option was secured last month, with funds to spur local industry and attract new business. Mulqueen noted 100 jobs would mean about $280,000 in payroll and over $500,000 in local trade.

Attacking MiGs Piloted By Russians

In Formosa area a Nationalist Air Force briefing says Russians piloted MiG jets that shot down a T33 trainer and attacked an unarmed commercial plane over the Formosa Strait near Matsu Island. Intercepted radio traffic was in Russian and the trainer crashed into the sea with the pilot dead.

Day Becomes Night Over Central London

A freak blackout turned day into night over central London for two hours on Monday. Hundreds called the Weather Bureau for an explanation as street lights came on and animals sheltered. The bureau cited a pall of heavy black smoke trapped under low clouds as the cause.

Kilgore to plead innocent on new charges

Alvin Kilgore, 43, held in county jail, will plead innocent and seek a jury trial on charges of robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle related to a shooting case. He was released from Nebraskan penitentiary after serving time for the Council Bluffs officer shooting in which Sgt. Wilbur B. Miller was killed. Kilgore says he served 20 years and now feels he has paid his debt.

The Iowa Adjutant General says bids for a new four unit National Guard armory at Fifth Ave and Pearl St in Council Bluffs will open July 20. The two story 100 by 100 foot building will connect to the Dodge Lightguard Armory, replacing the old adjacent armory. Deeds to the site were provided by a trust including Lt Gen Mathew A Tinley.

In Muscatine the McCormick-Craiz Co. aluminum coating firm suffered a fire that destroyed a two story brick building. Unofficial estimates place damage at over 200000. Only the walls remained as generators and anodizing machines were lost. The blaze began with an explosion and flames were seen for miles. The fire was headed by Brent R. McCormick. Cause of the fire had not been determined.

Belgrade radio announced President Tito accepted an invitation to visit Moscow after a Big Three Yugoslavia conference. Wayne Anderson Dies in Sweden in Car Crash

Wayne C. Anderson 44 of Red Oak Iowa United States Department of Agriculture attache to Stockholm died in Eskilstuna Sweden from injuries suffered in an automobile crash last Thursday. He suffered skull and jaw fractures a concussion left arm crushed and left thigh broken. Survived by widow son Bill daughter Mrs Catham Horn and sister Mrs Lloyd Olenius. He was born September 5 1910 in Stanton Iowa and had served on multiple farm and rural electrification boards. He represented USDA in Sweden and Finland since arriving April 6.
