Counterfeit Cash Ring Busted Near White House

Secret service agents seized nearly $100,000 in counterfeit bills in a raid at 1807 H Street NW near the White House and Secret Service offices. Four men and a woman were arrested on manufacturing and passing charges, including Eugene Creighton Walter Kidwell William Hughes Josephine Hughes and Arthur Bear. Notes were produced in early April and circulated on a nationwide tour that yielded about $2,000 in passes in several cities before returning to Washington.

Court Reverses Christoffel Perjury Conviction

The Supreme Court threw out Harold R. Christoffel's perjury conviction from a Milwaukee labor leadership case. He had claimed no communist ties before a U S House labor committee and faced a 2 to 6 year sentence. A rousing Good Will caravan greeted four towns in Mills County and Adams area as a three day tour began in Emerson. Crowds gathered despite threatening weather while officials from Glenwood Malvern Hastings and Emerson spoke of local progress and community pride. Omahan Killed in Highway 75 Crash

Norman D Wissenburg a 34 year old of Omaha died when the gasoline tanker he drove overturned on Highway 75 near Honey Creek. The tractor wreck occurred after the load of 5400 gallons of panoline shifted and trapped him under the cab. Aileen Klingman of Estherville was also involved as the truck clipped her car before overturning. Coroner H Stanley Woodring investigated. the death marked the ninth traffic fatality in the county this year.

Weekend Iowa traffic toll rises to four deaths

Four people died in Iowa over the weekend in traffic incidents. A headon collision on Highway 30 near Le Grand claimed two lives. Others included Alma Kilmer of Fort Lauderdale and Adett Kilmer, both injured or killed in separate crashes, and Andrew Hogg, an inspector for the Iowa Bureau of Labor, who died from injuries after a bridge collision near Wilton. A fifth man, Luis Wooten, died at home from injuries from a fall about ten days earlier.

CUTTYHUNK Mass Huntington R Tack Hardwick 58 Harvard football immortal died of a heart attack while clamming at Churchs beach. A friend with him said he toppled into the water as they walked the shore. Native of Quincy he entered Harvard in 1911 and was an all America football end in 1914. He was the universitys first and only four gold ball man and also a track star winning his H in three major sports.

Towboat Tessler Destroyed by Fire on Mississippi River

A towboat named Tessler was destroyed by a fire that followed an explosion on the Mississippi River eight miles above Grand Tower Illinois on Sunday. The eight crew members escaped in five boats and were rescued later by another towboat named Wabash.

Drowning at Crystal Pool Claims Stazzoni Girl

Teresa Ann Stazzoni fourteen-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Stazzoni of 1426 Fourth avenue drowned Sunday at Crystal pool in Council Bluffs. Lifeguards and emergency crew spent over an hour attempting revival. autopsy confirmed death by drowning. The body was found at the nine foot depth by 17 year old Phillip Fields. Red Cross instructor Jerry Hudson and medical student Dwayne Tweedale aided until help arrived. She is survived by her parents and a brother, Dominic. The body is at Woodring funeral home.

Florida Governor Weds in California Honeymoon Plans

Honey Creek Crash Fatal to Omahan

Norman D. Wessenburg, 34, of Omaha, was killed when his truck tractor and gasoline tank trailer overturned on highway 75 near Honey Creek shortly after 11 a m Monday. The 5,400 gallon load struck another car, slid into a concrete culvert, and pinned him beneath the wreck, according to sheriff's deputies.

Sleeping on Blanket Man Run Over at Lake Manawa

Roland Rayburn, 22, of 224 North Twenty fifth Street, was injured when a car ran over his knee while he slept on a blanket at Lake Manawa Sunday. Driver Leon Robertson of Omaha said he did not know Rayburn was sleeping nearby. Rayburn and a companion took him to Mercy hospital. he was released after treatment with no broken bones. Des Moines man Bernard Lloyd Zames, 24, was arrested for a $211 grocery store holdup at Winick Brothers, following a written statement.
