Delegates Back in Capital to Enthusiastic Welcome

Barkley Predicts San Francisco Charter Ratified by Aug. 15

UPI reports Major Leader Barkley of Kentucky expects Senate ratification of the San Francisco charter by August 15 at the latest, perhaps as early as August 1. He told reporters he would take more action only after weighing conscience and public duty.

Food Shortages Mounting Higher

Food shortages grow in major cities as grain sugar margarine lard and some canned fruits and vegetables run scarce. Meat is less available in June, with 35 months of data showing few big city stores carrying frankfurters or Bologna. UNRRA boosts relief shipments to Europe, but warns of a winter shortage. UNRRA officials set minimum food needs for 1945 at 2.423 million metric tons.
