Fighter Planes Blast Jan Targets In New Series

More than 300 American fighters from Okinawa and Iwo Jima swept over Japan after a record run of Superfort raids. Japanese radio warned of invasion plans and said Hirohito may assume dictatorial powers. U.S. and Filipino forces trapped 20,000 Japanese along Aparri to Tuguegarao and cleared Aparri while Okinawa mopped up pockets of resistance. American losses at sea rose with 20 ships sunk or damaged by kamikazes, as air strikes hit Kyushu and Tokyo area defenses. Australians took Natier field and Chinese captured interior towers.
