First Band Concerts At Bayliss Park Wednesday Night

Anti-aircraft Batteries to Protect Strategic Plants

Taft to Conference in Chicago June 30

Taft of Ohio announced he will go to Chicago on June 31 to confer with delegates to the Republican national convention opening July 7. He will be at the Taft for President headquarters at the Conrad Hilton from June 30 through July 3, then return to Washington. He will spend the July 4 holiday with his family and take Mrs. Taft to Chicago on July 5 afternoon. Social Security Hike Approved by House Vote

The House approved a bill to raise Social Security benefits by at least $5 a month for about 4.4 million current beneficiaries, with an estimated annual cost of $300 million. The measure, sponsored by Rep. Toughton, moves to the Senate after a 360 to 22 roll call approval. It proposes a $5 monthly increase or 12 percent, whichever is larger, for current retirees and similar boosts for future retirees and other beneficiaries, plus higher earnings limits and protections for totally disabled recipients.
