NEW DELHI. Chances increased Monday that the mainly Hindu Congress party and the Moslem League would accept the British cabinet plan for an interim government to guide the subcontinent during the transition to independence. Viceroy Field Marshal Wavell proposed a 14-member interim body with five Congress, five Muslim League, and four other representatives to start functioning June 25.

McVitty Named Iowa VFW Chief

Dr John McVitty of Coliner Bluffs was elected state commander of the Iowa department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Sioux City ending the annual convention. A past commander of Grenville M Dodge post, he will push reorganizing the Town VFW and seek a World War II veterans bonus similar to World War I. Honard Welsh of Fairfield was chosen senior vice commander and Thomas Nelson of Dubuque junior vice commander. Auxiliary officers selected included Mrs Wazel Johnson Fairfield president and Mrs Cyetphen Nichols Ottumwa junior vice president. A $5000 check from the state auxiliary supported the Town department aims to fund a second Town cottage at the national home in Baton Rapids. The Davenport post auxiliary won the Americanization award for the third straight year.
