In Hartford Connecticut a 26 year old mother Mrs Connie Nappies Jr gave birth Saturday to a set of identical triplets at Mt Sinai hospital the first such birth at the new facility. The three girls arrived at 11 51 11 54 and 11 57 am weighing four pounds six ounces four pounds eight ounces and four pounds five ounces all are reported doing well.
Norman J. Zierold of South Amana wins a Bordeaux University assistantship in France to teach English and pursue graduate work. He joins the University of Jawa student body in this exchange program.
Judge Alan Goldsborough, 73, died Saturday night at his daughter's home while celebrating his 42nd wedding anniversary. A U S district judge since 1939, he suffered a heart attack after working a half day in court. Born September 16 1877 in Greensboro Maryland he began practice in 1901 and later served as county prosecutor. In 1948 he signed an order halting a railroad strike after government seizure.
More than 100 descendants of Johann Heinrich Plumer gather at his Mills County farmstead to mark the centennial of Plumer Settlement. The site, owned by grandson Charles Plumer Jr., sits on Highway 275 near Council Bluffs. In Tokyo an unknown caller told Mrs. Maher her husband Sergeant Thomas V. Maher of the Camp Omila hospital in Japan was killed in an accident about June 1. The wife checked with the War Department in Washington and was told there was no record of his death. Maher says he is alive and continues duty and writes daily.
The Weather Bureau reports mainly sunny and warm conditions in Bluttz and Vicinity with a high near 76 Sunday. Iowa expects partly cloudy skies with scattered showers and highs around 72 to 78. Nebraska remains fair and cooler with highs in the 70s. Southeast winds, observed temperatures, and precipitation totals are noted, including 2.56 inches total and 10.83 inches excess.
