Towboat Alexander Sunk After Collision in River
In a Wednesday night incident the $850,000 towboat Alexander struck a rolling boulder and sank in the river. Captain Paul Rose reported the hull caved in with damages around $100,000. Two loaded gasoline barges were cut loose and sent to the Stanard Oil dock to aid the sinking craft. The boat rests on the river bottom with water reaching the main deck. Comedian Milton Berle remarried his former wife Joyce Matthews in New York last Thursday, following their Reno divorce on October 22, 1947.
