Injunction Case Continues In Omaha Real Estate Review

The injunction case filed by Myles Standish owner of the Omaha Standard Body Inc to stop the board of review from equalizing local real estate assessments was continued indefinitely by District Judge Charles Ror. Hearing date to be set by attorneys. Standish’s attorney Addison Kistle asked for the continuance pending the return of J J Hess who is aiding the case and reportedly on a fishing trip in Wyoming. Three members of the Town state tax commission attended the hearing including Henry W Wormley Lewis H W Cook and David L Martow. Standish’s property readjustment faces city and state officials at a Monday meeting. The city assessor’s office reports no personal assessment has been made on the Omaha Standard Body as J M Cleminshaw engineers were not admitted to the building or given cooperation in the appraisal. The board of review is reviewing real estate assets.

Europe Nearing Finish Jackson Reports Work in Germany

Justice Robert H. Jackson said on Monday his work as American war crimes prosecutor in Germany would end by July 15 and he would return to the United States. He noted he is not resigning, and outlined that the tribunal will focus next on prosecutions of the SS Gestapo and the Hitler Youth. The five member commission is preparing groundwork for the actual trials with separate legal staffs. Jackson avoided further comment on the Senate controversy with Black and President Truman’s alleged request to delay public statements.

McVitty Named Iowa VFW Chief

Dr. John S. McVitty of Council Bluffs was elected state commander of the Iowa VFW at the Sioux City convention closing session. A former commander of Grenville M. Dodge post No. 737 and the seventh district, he plans reorganizing the Iowa VFW and seeks a world war II bonus similar to the postwar WWI bonus. Howard Welsh of Fairfield was named senior vice commander and Thomas Nelson of Dubuque junior vice commander. Lee E. Crippen of Marshalltown was re elected chaplain. auxiliary officers include Hazel Johnson of Fairfield president and Gretchen Nichols of Ottumwa junior vice president. A $4,000 check to Howard Etheridge funded the second Iowa cottage at the national home for widows and orphans in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
