Slow Delivery of Aid to Chinese Nationalists

Adm. Arthur W. Radford, Pacific fleet commander, said aid shipments to the Chinese nationalists on Formosa were disappointingly slow. Five Bank Officials Sentenced for Embezzlement in Pittsburgh

Federal court jailed five former bankers for embezzlement with terms from 15 months to 10 years. William Smidtzer, 57, assistant cashier at New Kensington First National, got 10 years for $630,000 theft after restitution of $332,000. Other defendants included Richard Slaughenkaumip, $100,000, three years. Goldie Cadwell, $28,183, five years. Otto Grotefend, $16,000, 15 years. George Shiarella, $81,324, four years plus $5,000 fine.

Audubon Man Dies in Crash

Ralph Hottman, 9, of Audubon died Thursday evening in an auto crash north of town on highway 1. Sheriff Glen McLaughlin reported the car, traveling south at high speed, skidded after touching railroad tracks and rolled into an embankment, destroying the top of the vehicle. He died at the scene before hospital transport. Survived by his mother, two sisters and a brother. third fatal accident in Audubon county this year.

70-pound Muskie Beer Can Victim Found on Lake Bemidji

A large muskellunge weighing over 70 pounds was found dead on Lake Bemidji shores with a beer can lodged in its throat. Anglers speculated the fish mistook the shiny can for a lure. The finder, Walt Ellis, cited a length of 65 inches and jaws 9 inches wide.
