War Contracts Renegotiation Act Upheld by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court Monday upheld the constitutionality of the War Contracts Renegotiation Act. Three firms challenged the law in recovering excess profits from World War II contracts, including Southern Fireproofing of Cincinnati seeking 27019 and General Products of San Francisco claiming 113709, plus Boston's Combing Company seeking 15882. Justice Burton wrote the ruling, with Justice Jackson dissenting on the Lichter and Pownall points and Justice Douglas urging a hearing in other courts on Lichter’s actual circumstances.
