Four Teens Die In Separate Iowa Crashes
Four teen aged people died in two separate Iowa crashes on Sunday. Carol Bradley 16 and her sister Thoan 14 of Fairbank and Russell Paine 19 of Fairbank were killed when their car hit a bridge abutment on Highway 190, rolled down an embankment, and burned near Oelwein while en route to a wedding. Karen Norris 16 of Sandyville died when a car driven by Ervin Lee Birkenholz 38 of Knoxville failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 92 east of Indianola. Norris was among the dead passengers. The Bradley sisters were students at Fairbank High School and the group had been bound for a wedding in Oelwein. Carol Bradley was trapped in the wreckage, the other two were thrown from the car. The highway patrol noted the abutment impact followed more than 100 feet on the shoulder. Indianola police cited reckless driving by Birkenholz in the town square as a contributing factor. an officer began pursuit after witnessing wheel-spinning and reckless driving.
