Army Chaplain and Mother Die in Highway Crash Near Logan
Captain Hugo Waldschmidt, 36, an army chaplain at Fort Riley Kansas, and his mother Martha Waldschmidt, about 55, of Lincoln Nebraska, were killed when their auto struck a concrete bridge on highway 30 two miles northeast of Logan at 2 30 am Monday. Waldschmidt's sister Mia Helen Dejtz, also of Lincoln, was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs in fair condition. The 3 year old son survived uninjured. Sheriff C A Bullis, state highway patrol and Coroner Harold Hennessey said mud and clay on the paving caused the skid that led to the crash. coroner ruled no inquest. Bodies placed at Bolton-Ranston funeral home in Logan for transfer.
