County Still Lags in Drive

Milk Production Above Year Ago

Iowa milk production for last month reached 749 million pounds, about 18 million more than May 1944 estimates. Cows numbered 1,377,000, a drop from 1,486,060 in May 1943. May average per cow rose to 544 pounds, the highest since 1941, due to herd reductions and good pastures. Conditions in April and May were at 98 and 91 percent, with June at well above average.

One-Man Massacre: Craft Kills 30 Japanese at Okinawa

Clarence Craft of Santa Ana California earned praise for a solo assault on a hill at Shuri line battlegrounds.
