Library to Seek Extra Mill Levy for 1950 51

The Council Bluffs Free Public Library plans a one year 1 mill tax levy to raise about $30,000 for building repairs and improvements and higher operating costs for 1950 51. A $21,000 building expansion and remodeling program is part of the plan along with a modern lighting project and an elevator. The library has grown from 20 000 volumes in 1907 to 60 000 today and seeks $45,000 via taxation with $4,000 requested for operations and $4,300 from other income. Mother and four children die in Northville fire

In Northville Michigan a 34 year old mother Mrs Cora Neeley and four of her seven children Shirley Fay 9 Linville 7 Phyllis 4 and Bruce jr 3 were killed when a two story frame home burned Tuesday. The father and three other children escaped with one child being aided from a window by the mother.

Hot Rod Lands Schoolboy in Jail

Des Moines 17 year old John De Frees of North High School serves 15 days in jail on a speeding charge. Judge Howard Brooks added nine more days on other speeding counts to be served concurrently if the boy's mother disposes of the souped up 1934 sedan. The judge said the youth was practically a reclus at mechanics after remodeling the car in a short time.
