Hoop Jr Wins Derby By Six Lengths In Muddy Run

Hoop Jr. led virtually from the start and won the Kentucky Derby by six lengths over Pot O Luck as Darby Dieppe, Ar Sailor and others trailed. Eadie Arcaro rode the Jacksonville owned colt for F. W. Hooper with Calumet Farm entrant Pot O Luck in second, meeting a rough track after three days of rain before a crowd of about 65 000. It was Hooper's third Derby triumph and Hoop Jr. set the largest winning margin since Whirlaway.

Indian Creek Tragedy: 72-Year-Old Drowns Near Trestle

Charles Mackeben 72 of 1622 Fifth Avenue drowned in muddy Indian Creek near the railroad trestle at Fifth Avenue and Fourteenth Street shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Two Weeks to Live for Leukemia Stricken Child

Diana Peel three year old daughter of Seaman Richard J Peel living in a Pacific hospital is described as very pale and frail yet able to feed herself and seek rocking. Doctors say she has at most two weeks to live though appetite shows slight temporary improvement.
