Lost Thayer Boy Found in Thicket After Night Search

Jimmy Beardsley, 7 or 9 years old, wandered from Thayer Sunday evening while chasing a kitten and was found near Burlington railroad tracks north of the town after an all night search. Sheriff R Ewing said the boy was unharmed but damp from rain. over 50 neighbors searched a square mile around the Arnold farm before Cecil Clayton found him half a mile away.

Three Die as 3 Car Wreck Near Bald Bluff Illinois

In Oquawka Illinois three persons were burned to death after a head on collision on a sharp curve near a Bald Bluff filling station Saturday night. Charles Shike and Jerry T Johnson died, Harris Kolstud driver of one car was critically injured and taken to Monmouth Hospital. Bodies burned beyond recognition. Sheriff Vincent Carlson reports another car struck the wreck.

Refuses to Forbid Race Segregation in Draft Bill

In a 67 to 7 vote, Senators rejected Senator Lang er s amendment to ban race discrimination or segregation in inductions and assignments into the armed forces. The action was the first of seven Lang er civil rights amendments tied to the draft measure. Gurney argued the two year draft bill is paramount and civil rights should stand on their own.

Drops Dead Shortly After His Graduation

Edward J. Sessar of Waterloo died at Iowa City shortly after receiving a bachelor of science degree at the University of Iowa commencement. He fainted while riding with his parents to visit a friend to give a graduation present, collapsed at the curb and died before hospital care. His mother noted he had a long standing minor heart ailment.

Long Session on Creek-Lake Problem Drafts Flood Control Plan

A lengthy meeting in Maj. Gen. Lewis A. Pick's Omaha office continued past 2:10 p.m. Monday after starting at 11 a.m. City officials army engineers and local conservationists sought a solution to the final hurdle in a 2 500 000 flood control project. The plan would extend the creek south to the Missouri river along Lake Manawa but conservationists warn it would drain the lake, and the Iowa conservation commission has not granted permission to use state land for the creek right of way.

West Reveals Five Point Plan for Western Germany

Western powers proposed a five point plan to create a separate federal government in western Germany and to curb future German aggression.
