Hope to Hold City Budget at Old Level

Auditor Nels Hansen and Mayor George Sparks push no tax increase for the 1949 50 fiscal year as Council Bluffs weighs high real estate taxes versus national and regional averages. The 1948 49 budget stood at 1 595 997 with 652 047 for independent divisions, and the city uses 60 percent of actual value for assessment leading to a $62 rate per 1 000 and a total assessed value of 30 338 909. The Bureau notes a 15.7 percent rise in per capita assessed valuation, while declaring services vary and rates alone do not measure municipal efficiency.
