Farragut Boy 11 Drowns in Farm Pond Tragedy

A farm near Muscatine saw 18 month old Michael Griffiths drown after falling into a trough on his parents’ farm while Kenneth Hockenberry, 11, son of Mr and Mrs Lester Hockenberry near Farragut, also perished in a pond accident.

American MP Shot by Border Guard in Berlin Incident

An American military policeman was shot and Kenneth drowned while wading near the border. The shooting happened six miles south of Shenandoah on Machnowerstrasse during a routine patrol when a Soviet zone boundary was crossed. A bullet hit the jeep driver and the engine was damaged. the body was recovered 40 minutes later and officials condemned the act as barbaric.

Strike Flop in France as CGT Strike Fails

In Paris Premier Antoine Pinay deployed thousands of police including tear gas and masks to counter a CGT led strike over the arrest of Jacques Duclos. One Shot Fells Two Pittsburgh Burglars

Pittsburgh police report two youths, George Coppler and John Hart, 18, robbed a tailor shop. Patrolman William Baker fired one shot, killing Coppler and injuring Hart. both in fair condition. Both will be charged with burglary.

Three Soldiers Killed When Car Hits Bridge South of Norwalk

A Des Moines area crash at 7 30 am Wednesday killed three young soldiers and left three others critically injured.
