Dragnet Snares Eight Prisoners
Eight of the 14 long term convicts who cut their way out of West Virginia's old state penitentiary were recaptured Saturday. Planes, jeeps and road blocks were used to locate the six still at large. The breakout occurred before dawn Friday. Two more escapees, Everett Roble and Elmer Tichnell, both 28, from Parkersburg, were captured near Belpre by Police Chief Earl W. Walker. Mike Ables, 24, and Holly Starcher were spotted near Ponhattan, Ohio, Ables shot in the shoulder by an Ohio trooper. Three others were returned to the penitentiary after storekeeper alerts and hunger pains.
