The Iowa index of prices received by farmers on May 15 reached its highest level since World War I, at 200 percent of the 1910-1914 prewar average. Bond dealings suspended on three railroad issues

The New York Stock Exchange suspended dealings in the 5 percent 1 year series A and first and refunding gold 4 percent bonds of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway, plus the 4 percent first and refunding 50 year bonds of the Iowa Central Railway. The suspensions affect obligations of the predecessor company to the Minneapolis and St. Laws Railway, now under the present firm since December. The exchange cited small outstanding amounts and price disparity relative to reorganization equity as reasons.

Burlington requests denied to abandon branch lines

An Interstate Commerce Commission examiner recommended Friday denying the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad’s plan to abandon 53.15 miles of branch line in Town and denying its request for trackage rights over 51 miles of the Chicago Great Western main line and to build a connecting link near Talmage. The railroad had sought authority to abandon the Burch Osceola branch and obtain rights over the Great Western from Burch to near Falmage.

Heavy rain Friday sparked a blaze at Hargrave Construction in Cedar Rapids.
