At a meeting of the American Statistical Association in Chicago economist Charles E. Young of Weyerhauser Timber Co warned the postwar boom may not run its course until around mid 1953. Rep Hillings called for a full inquiry into the Justice Department’s conduct during Tom Clark’s 12 years in government. The judiciary subcommittee faulted Clark for interfering with routine duties in the Kansas City vote fraud case and criticized McGrath and Ford for indifference. Clark, who served as attorney general before Supreme Court tenure, has offered no public comment.
The Oakland Civil Air Patrol squadron of 27 seniors and 23 cadets spans Oakland and nearby towns. London papers report Dr Alan Nunn May, the Western world’s first convicted atom spy, will be released from Wakefield Prison Monday after six years and eight months of a 10 year sentence for passing atomic information to the Russians. The Home Office confirmed release this month but gave no specific date, citing good behavior.

A young mother, Mrs. Don Ward of Atlantic, was killed Saturday in a collision with a Rock Island Rocket at a county road crossing near Wiota. Ward, 18, was en route to her parents’ home to see her six-week-old daughter Linda Joan, who had recently left the hospital. Officers said Ward likely failed to see the oncoming train as wreckage stretched about 800 yards along the right of way. The train sustained minor damage.
